As a DI alumna who was part of a DI team that turned into a second family, I understand how important it is to incorporate team bonding and traditions into your DI season. My team managers urged us to spend time together outside of DI meetings and started traditions that still stand today, even 5 years after we all graduated high school.
This presentation will discuss the important role that team building and traditions play in cultivating a DI family and how to get started. I will give examples of team bonding activities for in and out of meetings, with and without team managers, and traditions that will stick with your team members for years. I will share my experience and draw from the experience of those in attendance to explain why it is important to cultivate a DI family and advice on how to get there.

Wellbeing has been a buzzword topic, but what does this look like on both a collective and individual level? As an entrepreneur within coaching, and an employee within structural engineering, Natalie-Claire is a strong advocate for burnout prevention - particularly within the demanding premises of STEM. When we volunteer to support initiatives close to our hearts, we feel great. However, it's not unusual for this rewarding feeling to turn into a tasking chore if not managed in the best way possible. In this session, we look at personal values, current structures in our lives, and how to plan forward in the best way possible.

As a student who went to Global Finals three times and is from a small town in New Hampshire, I understand the excitement that comes with making it to Globals. However, shortly after the excitement comes the conversations about the cost of Globals and fundraising. My team received no assistance from our high school and therefore had to rely on support from the people in our small town. Some of the ideas I would discuss are spaghetti dinners, silent auctions, road tolls, bake sales, crispy creme donuts sales, dances, and asking your city or town hall for donations. Fundraising seems straightforward, but for teams that haven't had to raise that much money at once, it can be very beneficial to hear ideas from others who have been in that position. I would like to present on the topic and then invite participants to ask questions and share their own ideas and experiences.
